Fleetwood Crew receive Diamond Jubilee Medals

Crew members from Fleetwood RNLI were recently presented with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal by Mrs Sandra Calvert, who has been an enthusiastic supporter and fundraiser for the past 6 years since the tragic death of her husband who was the pilot of the helicopter that ditched in the sea off Morecambe Bay gas rigs back in 2006. When the design and eligibility criteria for the medal charter boat fish was announced by the Secretary of State for Culture, Jeremy Hunt, in the summer of 2011, he stated «I hope the official medal will serve as a mark of thanks to all those who give so much in the name of society and public service and I extend my congratulations to all the recipients.»

Peter Woodworth, RNLI Fleetwood Lifeboat Chairman commented: «The RNLI is a Charity that receives no UK government funding, we rely on the voluntary contributions of our donors and crew. The long service of these individuals illustrates their exemplary commitment to the very best traditions of the RNLI. Thanks goes not only to our crew but also to their employers and families — without whose considerable support and understanding our work would simply not be possible.”
